St. Paul's: Located on the Great Northern Peninsula, the community was probably named after the Apostle Paul.
In the ENL it is stated that the first settler of St. Paul's Bay was a trapper, known as Elias Gifford: "Gifford reportedly lived there by himself for some years before others settled: it was he who was recorded in the 1874 Census for St. Paul's (pop. 1)". However, things changed dramatically when "in the early 1880s a Halifax firm, Payzant and Fraser, began a lobster factory on the point, and by 1888 it was considered the most successful factory on the west coast, employing 30 people seasonally and sending surplus lobsters to the firm's main factory at Woody Point.
In the mid 1900s logging also became a major employer in the area.
The population of the town was 238 in 2016, a 7.8% decrease from the 258 recorded in 2011;
