In 2009 Roddickton amalgamated with Bide Arm to form the community of Roddickton-Bide Arm (Pop. 947). Roddickton was originally known as Easter Brook.

In the early 1900s the name was changed to honour Thomas G. Roddick, a physician and dean of Medicine at McGill University who was a staunch supporter of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell's work in Labrador.

Known as the "Moose Capital of the World", according to the NP website, there are 6 animals per square kilometer (247.1 acres): "It is not uncommon to see moose on lawns, in back yards, or along the streets at any time of day or night. In addition to the moose, this area is also home to a healthy population of caribou and black bears".

The town's motto is "Safe Haven of the North" which according to the website is "derived from the Winter Tilting days of the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s when residents of surrounding communities moved to Bide Arm to work during the winter months and also to escape the bitter cold of Newfoundland winters on the Great Northem Peninsula.

Many of them referred to Bides Arm (as the old folk say) as their Safe Haven. The combined community of Roddickton-Bide Arm had a population of 999 in 2016, reflecting a 5.5% decrease from 2011 when there were 10,57 residents.
