Rocky Harbour. Other communities in Bonne Bay of importance include Norris Point and Neddy Harbour which were described elsewhere.
In a similar manner to the descriptive name of Woody Point, Rocky Harbour got its name from the reef of rocks that "protect" the harbour. From the NP website comes the following description of Rocky Point:
The community of Rocky Harbour, located between two prominent landmarks, Salmon Point and Lobster Cove Head, at the northern entrance to the beautiful Bonne Bay.... The settlement consisted of six major areas, which eventually expanded all around the harbour.
They are (1) Lobster Cove (named for the visit of lobsters); (2) Woody Point (a cove with a growth of timber); (3) Bear Cove (bears visited the area and caused havoc); (4) Bottom (located at the base of the harbour); (5) Rocky Harbour Cove (a very deep cove, great for anchoring largeboats; and (6) Rocky Harbour Pond (on the road to Norris Point, a swimming hole favorite).
The population of Rocky Harbour was 947 in 2016; compared to 979, a'3.3% decrease, from recorded in 2011.
