Jackson's Arm: Located on the northwest side of White Bay on the Great Northem Peninsula, the community, is named, according to Hamilton (1996) after an early settler, however no information about who that settler was, was given.
According to material contained in the ENL listing, in prehistoric times the area around White Bay was home to peoples of the Dorset culture and the Maritime Archaic Indians, in fact, in Jackson's Arm artifacts have been discovered indication occupation of the area by middle Dorset peoples, and in nearby Pumbly Cove (to the North) a Dorset burial cave was discovered.
It is known that French fishermen fished the area seasonally in the late 1700s, but wasn't until the mid 1800s, the first settlers came from Fogo Island and Notre Dame Bay. The population of Jackson's Arm in 2016 consisted of 284 residents, down 12.1% from 323 in 2011.
