Newfoundland Tourism Region : Western
Hughes Brook: Located to the northeast of Corner Brook, in the western Bay of Islands area, on the town's website it is described as follows:
Nestled at the base of surrounding mountains, only 15 minutes from the heart of Corner Brook, Hughes Brook is the epitome of scenic pleasure. The gateway at your backdoor, Hughes Brook provides access to recreational activities including snowmobiling, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing and so much more...
And that was just about all the information that was found after a great deal of research.
Is it named after a settler with the surname, Hughes? Or is it a reference to a specific person, whose first name is Hugh?
It is known however that the 2016 population, according to the recent census, was recorded as being at 255, a 10.4% increase over the 231 enumerated in 2011.
