Hawke's Bay: Located at the mouth of the Torrent River southeast of Point Riche, it has been verified that in 1776 Cook named the town after Admiral Edward Hawke to commemorate his victorious battle in 1759, the Battle of Quiberon Bay, fought on November 20th during the Seven Years' War between England's Royal Navy and the French Navy.
According to information presented in Wikipedia, Hawke's Bay was used as an "enclave during the early struggle for North America by both the English and French navies".
It was not settled until the early 20th century, when Michael Walsh became the first permanent resident. The Census of 2016 indicated that there were 315 residents in Hawke's Bay, a decrease of 6.8% from the 338 reported in 2011.
