Anchor Point: Located on the Great Northern Peninsula, near Deadmans Cove, according to the Northern Peninsula website (hence forth referred to as the NP Website), it was the earliest English settlement in the area. Settled in the 1700s by the Genge Family from Somerset, England, it was a base for both the fishing and fur hunting industry. Anchor Point, which has the oldest consecrated cemetery, probably was given its name as it offered great "anchorage" to fishermen. Currently there are 314 residents.
