Port Disappointment: From the NGA Publication 146, entitled "Sailing Directions (EnRoute) Newfoundland, Labrador and Hudson Bay (2017)" we know that Port Disappointment is a "small bay lying about 0.5 mile SE of Trout Point [Labrador].

It is backed by steep rocky cliffs, rising to 292 m, about 1 mile E of the head of the bay, this conspicuous summit can be seen for many miles up the lake [Lake Melville]. Shelter for small vessels can be obtained behind Trout Island".

How it got its name is unknown, however, it is known that Cook and Lane both charted some of that part of the coast, one could wonder if this is one of their "names".

Kikiaq: Located on Hamilton Inlet, which is at the entrance to fresh water Lake Melville, the town is the southernmost officially recognized Inuit community not only in Labrador, but in the world.

East of Goose Bay by 167 km (103.8 mi), it can be reached by ferry, the route taking 6.5 hours one-way.

Known in English as Rigolet, the town was settled in 1735 by French-Canadian trader Louis Fornel and by other European traders and fishermen who established trading posts in the area - prime sellers being "fins and furs".

The area is also known as an area whales were frequent visitors, so many whalers made the area their winter homes when the weather was just too foul for fishing.

It is believed that its name may come from the French word, rigoulette, which refers to a "channel" - Rigolet is on the NW banks of a narrow channel of water!

It is believed that Kikiaq translates to mean a "carpenter's nail" however, the connection is not conclusive.

In 2016 the census showed that there were 305 inhabitants, a decrease of 0.3% from 2011 when one more person (306) was recorded.
