Located north of Jean De Baic, Red Harbour is located about 20 km (124 mi) northeast of Marystown. According to ENL sources, the history of the community is closely intertwined with that of the Flat Islands, which are located about 5 km (3.1 mi) offshore."
Red Harbour was probably frequented for winter woods work by residents of the Flat Islands from the early 1800s, with many residents maintaining winter homes in the valleys of the East and West Red rivers.
Eventually, two families settled permanently on the point to the south of the West River. The community first appears in the Census in 1857 with a population of 28, nine of whom had been born in England".
Today the community of Red Harbour has a population of 189, a 1.0% decrease from the 191 recorded in 2011.
