The community of Seal Cove (White Bay) located on White Bay, which is on the westem side of the Baie Verte Peninsula, is about 14 km (8.7 mi) from the town of Baie Verte.

History says that it was settled by a family by the name of Osbome in the mid 1800s. Seal Cove first appears in the census of 1857 when the population was recorded to include 17 people.

The most recent census, in 2016 enumerated 303 residents, a decrease of one person (0.3%) from 2011 when there were 302. Today there are 11 Osbornes still living in Seal Cove (White Bay).

While seals are found around the island, as one will read below in an excerpt from the ENL, sealing was as a major part of the fishing industry on the northern part of the Island (compared to the southem), hence the name "Seal Cove (White Bay) is probably more "appropriate", if one can use word, for the name of the more northerly of the two towns.

White Bay is a very long bay that is east of the Great Northern Peninsula.

It extends southward from Orange Bay on the west and Partridge Point (on the Baie Verte Peninsula) on the east. There are very few towns on the shores of White Bay, given its terrain.

On the north shore the largest (and oldest) is Sops Arm. Across the opening of the bay is Pollard's Point.
