Beaumont was originally known as Wards Harbour; today it is part of the amalgamated community of Lushes Bight-Beaumont-Beaumont North.

The fishing community of Lushes Bight often makes it to the list of "quirky" names in Newfoundland.

In fact, in an early book on the language of Canada, Speaking Canadian English: An Informal Account of the English Language in Canada, the author Mark Orkin (1971) references Lushes Bight.

In commenting on place names in general he stated that "certainly many of them supply a freshness and humour sadly lacking in more recently settle regions".

Citing H.L. Keenleyside's 1944 article on place names, he quoted him as saying that Newfoundland place names were "full of surprise and enjoyment, with none of the slavish repetition of British of French names found elsewhere, and a refreshing absence of cliché communities as Centerville, Smithtown or Fairview".

In referring specifically to Lushes Bight and a few other communities, such as Snake's Bight, Scilly Cove, Bumble Bee Bight, Orkin described then as being "determined puns".

In 2016 the population of the combined communities Lushes Bight-Beaumont-Beaumont North was recorded as being 168, a 23.6% decrease from the 220 reported in 2011.
Long Island: As mentioned before is connected by ferry out of Pilley's Island.

It is the "home" to Lushes Bight and Beaumont. The island is not very big, however, shaped somewhat like a triangle, the base is much "longer" than the top, and for that reason, probably it was given the name "Long Island".

Beaumont takes its name from one of Newfoundland's saddest day in its history (i.e., it is an "incident" name).

On July 1, 1916 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, in a 30-minute time-span, most of the men of the Newfoundland Regiment were either dead or dying.

Out of 780 men, only 110 survived and the Regiment was basically wiped out. The following morning only 68 were well enough to respond to roll call.
