Little Burnt Bay: Located in the Bay of Exploits, 16.6 km (10.3 mi) northwest of Lewisporte, was settled at the turn of the 20th century. The 1901 census recorded a population of 54. Fishing was the mainstay of the economy, however, lumbering industry has also been a major employer. At one point there were over 500 residents, but the population has steadily declined because of the economic downturn that has hurt the area substantially over the past 50 years or so. In 2016 the population was recorded as being 281, down from the 294 from 2011 (a 4.4% decrease).
