Embree: Located in Notre Dame Bay about 10 km (6 mi) north of Lewisporte on the road to Little Burnt Bay, Embree was originally known as Salt Pond. According to ENL sources, the renaming occurred in 1931 (most likely due to confusion in the Post Office), however it was not officially listed as Embree until the Census of 1951.
It is most likely it was named after Rev. Jeremiah Embree (1844-1890) who was stationed in the area (i.e., Greenspond, Blackhead, Bonavista, Twillingate, and Fogo) before he was transferred to the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Conference in 1888.
The most recent census of 2016 showed a population of 701, a slight increase of 1.4%, from the 691 that were residing there in 2011.
