Eastport: According to information from the ENL Eastport was originally settled by people from Salvage.
The first permanent settlers were Joseph and William Squire who built cabins there are far back as 1868.
It wasn't necessarily the fishing that attracted them, rather the hundreds of hectares of level terrain that could be used for timber cutting and sawmilling, as well as farming.
In 1870 James Burden received title for first farm in area. According to the Central Newfoundland website, Eastport was formedy known as Salvage Bay, Salvage New and Brighton.
It takes its name because of its location on the "east" side of Salvage Bay.
Tourism, according to Wikipedia contributors, is the main "industry" nowadays, with its close proximity to Terre Nova Park, its magnificent beach and its "traditional Newfoundland outport heritage". The population in 2016 was 501, a 3.9% increase over the 482 of 2011.
