Buchans: Located in central Newfoundland on the north side of Red Indian Lake, Buchans was formerly an active lead and zinc mining town.
It was named after David Buchan a British Naval explorer who traveled up the Exploits River in 1818 in search of Beothuk. The population in 2016 was 642, reflecting a decrease of 7.8% from the 692 recorded 5-years before.
