Newfoundland Tourism Region : Avalon
Located on the western shore, almost at the tip of the peninsula one comes to a community that was once called Bull Bay, not to be confused with Bay Bulls, also on the Avalon Peninsula.
In the water off the point there are three black slate rocks that are known locally as The Bull, The Cow and The Calf, hence Bull Bay.
At some point in time, it was renamed Point Lance, according to Brooks (2013) as the point is similar in shape to a lance or spear.
In the 1950s the community was chosen to undergo resettlement however the community rejected the plan and today it is still a community, albeit a small one with a population, at the time of the last census, of 102, down 15% from the 120 of 2011.
