Victoria Cove: Located west side of Gander Bay, Victoria Cove is said to be named in 1896, according to ENL citations, by the surveyor (and one of the first settlers) John Wesley Webb, to honour Queen Victoria. Previously to that, Victoria Cove was known as Little House Cove.

It was written in the ENL that Victoria Cove was visited since the mid-19th century by fishermen who would do woods work in the winter", and that permanent settlement did not begin until 1894. The first settler is believed to have been Richard Bursey.

The first recorded census, in 1911 recorded a population of 140, however, the population decreased as the Labrador and local fishery decreased. Lumbering became an important source of employment when Horwood Lumber Co. had a major lumber mill in Dog Bay, a nearby community.
