Tompkins: Also known as Little River, Tompkins is shown as Thompkins on some early maps.
Settled in 1882 by a Scot, William Tompkins, from Margaree, Cape Breton.
In addition to farming, the Tompkins family is known to have established a small sawmill that served the needs of those wanting to have their wood milled into usable lengths.
