Stock Cove: Located south of King's Cove, and west of Knight's Cove, the name of Stock Cove probably refers to one of two types of "stock".
The first type of "stock" is a term that relates to the forestry industry. According to the DNLE, a stock refers to a "heavy log or beam" and so Stocks Cove (as it is referred to in some of the earlier records) may refer, according to information written in the ENL, from "the practice of sawing logs, or "stocks".
The second type of "stock" possibly refers to "livestock", as it is known that in the area, according to the ENL, had a "strong faming tradition" from its earliest days of settlement.
