St. Carol's: Located near the tip of the peninsula, about 6 km (3.7 mi) northeast of St. Anthony, it was also known as French Cove and St. Charles at various times.
While it never was a very large fishing station (the population in 2016 was only 64), it was closest to the fishing grounds to the north.
It is believed that it was first settled in the early 1860s. While there does not appear to be a "Saint Carol" in the Catholic Church, the name most likely was derived from the name Carolus (Charles) and there is a myriad of St. Charles. (Note: Often written without an apostrophe).
Oil Jacket Cove: Located on the north east tip of the Great Northern Peninsula, south of Great Brehat, in this case, Oil Jacket Cove (also written as OilJacket Cove) most likely refers the material, known as "oilcloth", from which jackets and fisherman''''s aprons were made of because they are virtually impervious to water.
