Crouse: On Cap (Cape) Rouge (Red Cape) there are actually two towns, Northeast Crouse and Southwest Crouse (also known as Southwest Grouse or Grouse Neck).
Both are just across the bay from the town of Conche. Crouse was originally named "Carouge" by Jacques Cartier in 1534 for its reddish cliffs that surround the harbour.
Because Crouse was primarily used as a summer base for fishermen, there were never a big enough population between the two communities to support such amenities as a church, school, or a store.
Consequently, because of its remoteness, the few people that resided in Crouse were resettled to Conche and Englee in the late 1970s
