Sop's Arm: Sops Arm is an 8 km (4.97 mi) long inlet, sheltered at the inlet by Sops Island. The community of Sop's Arm is on the north side of the Arm.
According to the listing in the ENL, Seary suggested that its name came from the Old English word "sop" which refers to a lump of black lead or similar black stone "conceivably descriptive of the north end of Sops Island".
Its history goes back to 1763 when the English firm of John Slade and Co. established a fishing plantation there. Sops Arm and Sops Island both appear on the Cook and Lane chart, however, the town is not shown.
