Sacred Bay: Located on the Great Northern Peninsula, Baie de Sacre, now known as Sacred Bay, was known to be an area where some of the early Francophone settlers fished.
The bay is quite large and has a number of small islands. Cook explored that area in the early 1760s. To the north of Sacred Bay, in the Strait of Belles Isles, seals were known to frequent and many fishermen became successful sealers in order to supplement their income from the cod fishery.
