Shearstown: Located west of Bay Roberts, the town was originally known as Spaniard's Bay Pond (or locally as "The Pond").
In the early 1900s it was renamed to honor a local Church of England clergyman William C. Shears, who served Bay Roberts from 1868 until 1903
