Seal Cove: As you will read in future sections, there are many communities and landmarks that go by the name of "Seal Cove".
This particular Seal Cove, which is at the western limit of CBS, includes nearby Lance Cove and Indian Pond.
According to ENL sources, it is believed that the earliest settlers probably came from some of the older communities on the northern side of Conception Bay, and like all other "Seal Coves" the name was chosen either to "commemorate" the many different types of seals that were hunted off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador or to recognize that seals were plentiful in the area.
There is an excellent article on the Heritage Newfoundland and Labrador Website entitled "The Newfoundland and Labrador Seal Fishery" that discusses the different types of seals, the different uses for the harvested seals, and the early methods of the commercial seal fishery.
