Robinsons: Predominantly known now as an agricultural centre, like many communities fishing was particularly important when Robinsons was first settled on the coast.
It is believed by some that its original name was Robinsons Head, and that it had been so named by Captain James Cook, after a respected British naval officer when he visited the area in 1767; others disagree and say that it was named after an early settler whose family name was Robinson.
With the development of the railway, a few families started to move inland, especially when the herring fishery started to decline, and overtime Robinson's Head was abandoned. The area of new development was known at first as Robinsons Village and eventually just as Robinsons.
