FITZGERALD'S POND PROVINCIAL PARK RESERVE:
Located on the Avalon peninsula 15 km (24.1 mi) from Dunville, northeast of Placentia, Fitzgerald's Pond Provincial Park Reserve protects 1.63 km2 (.63 mi2) of habitat.
This area has a population of the globally rare lichen, Erioderma pedicellatum.
The park takes its name from the pond (lake) that it borders on, but who Fitzgerald is remains a mystery to the research team.
The closest pond, slightly to the east is "O'Reilly's Pond", so perhaps the two were a couple of Irish settlers who homesteaded in the area.
