Pine Cove: Located south of Green Island Cove, Pine Cove (listed as Pines Cove in the ENL) is north of Savage Cove.
The derivation of its name is somewhat confusing. According to the NP website, Pine Cove is not named after the conifer tree, rather it is named after its first settler, a Mr. Pine.
This theory of its origin, however, is quite different from what one is outlined in the ENL. There it is stated that the name is derived "from the French use an Epingles (loosely. Pin Cove)".
Perhaps this is a "reference" to the conifer tree, as Pin is the French word for "pine"".
The same source suggested that it has "also appeared as Poynes Cove and Points Cove, reflecting local pronunciation".
According to the Linguee.com website, an "epingle" can be translated as a pin or a needle (as in "Ie clown a éclaté le ballon avec une épingle", translated as "the clown burst the balloon with a pin"). If the community was in fact named after a pin or a needle, the reasoning is unknown.
