O'Donnell's: Located on the Salmonier Arm of St. Mary's Bay, O'Donnell's was originally known as Mussel Pond.
There are two possibilities regarding who the town commemorates; the first suggest that it was so named to commemorate the four O'Donnell brothers who were parish priests in the area in the late 1880s; the other possibility that it was named to honour Bishop J. L O'Donel (however, note different spelling) who was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Newfoundland.
According to Wikipedia contributors, the second theory is most likely the correct one. There it is stated that "Father Enright, an Irish Roman Catholic priest who became parish priest of that community in 1919, changed the traditional name to O'Donnell's (after Bishop O'Donel, the first Roman Catholic prelate in Newfoundland)".
