Nicky's Nose Cove: Located on eastern coast of the Baie Verde Peninsula, in Green Bay, there some confusion over the correct form of "Nicky's Nose Cove".
On the Traveller's Map published by Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism and in other NLT publications, "Nicky" is spelt "Nicky" however, in the most authoritative of sources, the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador "Nicky's Nose" is spelt "Nickey's Nose". (i.e., with an "e"). So, which is correct?
The Encyclopedia lists the settlement with the extra "e" however, in tracing the history of the community, it is written that it was originally called "Nick's Nose" and that "the community takes it name from a nearby in the combined Nick's Nose Cove and neighboring Langdown Cove. "
In the ENL it is stated that "most of the people apparently were at the latter location, since only nine people were at Nickey's Nose 10 years later." With summer fishing and winter logging, the community remained viable and by 1901 there were 43 residents.
When a road finished in the 1950s, residents were able to go to King's Point and/or Springdale for what they needed, but, by 1986, the population had dwindled again to only 25 settlers and now, with new electoral boundaries, it is impossible to determine how many people actually remain in the community.
