Newfoundland Tourism Region : Eastern
Located north and west of Grand Bank, it is known, according to the ENL sources, that the town was first settled by three families, the Bennetts, the Grants and the Weymouths who moved there from Grand Bank to "farm and fish in the area".
Obviously, a French name, the actual origin is unknown. It is believed that it might come from one of the following two French verbs: mollir, which means "to die down" (as of wind), or "mouiller, "to drop anchor".
The 1857 Census records that there was a total of 11 settlers recorded for "Molyers" and "Little Barrisway" the latter being a tiny settlement to the east, which was abandoned at the tum of the twentieth century.
