Makinsons: Located about 5 km (3.1 mi) south of Clarke's Beach on Conception Bay, Makinsons also started as a railway stop.
The surrounding area was named after George Makinson, who in the 1860s, bought a large expanse of land that extended from Brigus to Goulds.
It was recorded that he purchased it from Charles Cozens, a merchant in Brigus, who had previously named it Cochrendale.
Other names for communities in the area that made up "Makinson" included The Gut aka Broads, or Drogheda; Juniper Stump, Goulds, Riverside Mills, Hodge Water Road, Turks Water, and Emerald Vale.
