Maidstone: There is a town in Kent, England that is also goes by the name of Maidstone.
Thirty-two miles (51 km) east-southeast of London, historically it was thought that the name of the English Maidstone came from the practice of setting stones into the river so that clothes could be rinsed in cleaner water than where they had been washed in the basin at the banks.
Whether or not the Newfoundland Maidstone is named after its English counterpart is unknown, but some local residents believe that is the case, other think it took its name from the rocky soil. No confirmation that such soil is known as "maidstone" though.
