Mahers: Located on the Avalon Peninsula, about an hour drive from St. John's, once a siding for the NL Railway, when the railway stopped running, the folks left town.

Now, with the nearby community of Ocean Ponds, it is part "cottage country'", being frequented by summer vacationers wanting to get away from the "big city".

The community is believed to be named after someone with the surname "Maher". Who? Unable to find out for sure after checking all the usual resources.
