Long Pond. There are many landmarks in Newfoundland and Labrador that are named because of their physical appearance, and such is the case with Long Pond.
The pond is actually a large salt-water lagoon which, as a result of dredging, is deep enough for larger vessels to moor at safely. It is the only such harbour in the area.
