Long Beach: It is known that Long Beach got its name as early as 1761 (one would assume there was a "long beach" on the waterfront), however permanent settlement did not occur until a much later, in the 1865.
Work in the Labrador fishery, along with lumbering and sawmilling were the main sources of income early on.
The population grew over time, peaking in 1945 with 156 residents; today there are fewer than 100.
