Lochleven: With another very Scottish sounding name, Lochleven is another inland community in the Valley. Local legend is that the town got its name from Father Rory MacNeil, a local clergyman who was the first to conduct mass in the town.
There is a famous castle on an island in Scotland that goes by the name of Loch Leven, named after the lake, it is built on in the 1300s.
It was there that Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and it was there she suffered a miscarriage, and eventually was forced to abdicate the throne. She was succeeded by her son, James VI.
