Newfoundland Tourism Region : Avalon
Lakeview: Located inland, 1.6 km (1 mi) southwest of Harbour Main on the Conception Bay Highway is the community known as Lakeview. The name Lakeview appeared first in 1935.
According to the town's website, there are "countless lakes" and the town "offers beautiful natural water views and trails". Undoubtedly it is these lakes from which the town takes its name.
According to Seary (cited in the ENL) the community may have been known earlier as Wickelow. This could not be confirmed by the research team, however, there is an area in Ireland that goes by this name (ie., Wickelow not Wicklow, which is a more common spelling) and it is known that many of the early settlers, as mentioned above did come from Ireland, so perhaps that is the connection).
Today, the amalgamated community of Harbour Main-Chapel's Cove-Lakeview has 1,067 residents (a decrease of 1.5% from 2011 when there were 1,083). Even though the community is "grouped" together it is still possible to see signage for each individual community.
