Kelligrews: There are two possibilities according to the material presented in the ENL to the origin of this settlement's name.
The first, which is based on "local tradition", is that Kelligrews is associated with the name of a seventeenth- century pirate, Captain Kelly and that the settlements name was a corruption of "Kelly's Grove".
The second is that the settlement was named after a Conception Bay merchant family, the Kelligrews.
According to their sources there was a man
who went by the name of William Kellegrew in near by Port de Grave as early as 1760.
