Heatherton: Again, a bit further north, the community of Heatherton has been known as a centre for fishing (not only herring, cod, and lobster fishing but also good fly fishing for fresh-water salmon and trout in some of the local rivers) and for farming, and more recently for logging.
Formerly known as Rattling Brook, Heatherton was first settled, in the early 1800s by a family of Scots from Cape Breton, by the name of Dan, Duncan and Angus MacPherson.
Over the early years of settlement in Newfoundland, Rattling Brook was a common name for towns located on "rattling brooks", so history goes on to say that it was renamed by Bishop Neil McNeil (1851-1934) to distinguish it from the other communities by the same name, and most likely to give homage to its first settlers.
