Harcourt: Located between George's Brook and Monroe on the north shore of Smith Sound according to information presented in the ENL, Harcourt was named by the Nomenclature Board after 1904.

Formerly known as Sandy Point, which is described as "a geographically descriptive name chosen because of the point of land upon which the settlement is situated".

The obvious reason for the name change was to avoid duplication with other communities with the same name, however, why the name "Harcourt" chosen and who it was named to honour remains unknown.

From the ENL: Like nearby Clifton and Burgoyne's Cove, Broad Cove (Somerset) and Upper and Middle Rocky Brook (Monroe), Sandy Point was settled after 1860 by families from Trinity, Trinity Bay, and other Trinity Bay communities such as Hant's Harbour, who came "up the Sound" at that time to settle in the richly forested area of Smith Sound to undertake sawmilling and boatbuilding.

Early family names associated with Sandy Point were Barrett, Parsons, Cooper, Strong, Tilley and White.
