Halls (or Hall's) Town: Located on the shores of North River which in tum empties into Bay de Grave in Conception Bay, according to information found in the ENL, Halls Town settled predominantly by settlers from the Bareneed and Port de Grave area.
It was first recorded in the Census of 1857 with a population of 198. Among the original thirty-two families in Halls Town there were "four Irish-born settlers and one foreign- born settler".
According to E.R. Seary the town was named after Issac Hall, "a deserter from a naval vessel, who made his home there in the early years of the nineteenth century. The family name is still common in the settlement".
