Grand Jardin and Petit Jardin: Located as one would expect, side-by-side, translated from French, Grand Jardin means "big garden" and Petit Jardin means "little garden".
In the late 1800s the two towns "together" were named Jardins Verts or "Green Gardens". According to the BFN website "Grand Jardin and Petit Jardin were named by fishermen who, looking toward the Cape from the water, saw two green patches on the hillside, one small and one large....
The residents in each area considered themselves residents of Cape St. George and also of Grand or Petit Jardin, and the boundaries have blurred with time. Some, however, still make the distinction".
