Located just north of St. Lawrence and Little St. Lawrence, this fishing community, originally had the rather odd name of Spoon Cove.
Apparently, the locals thought that the local brook, where it entered the harbour resembled the handle and the ladle of a spoon.
By petition the name was changed to Epworth, after the town of the same name in North Lincolnshire England. Its best known as the birthplace of John and Charles Wesley, the founders of the Methodist movement.
Recently the United Church in Epworth celebrated its 100th anniversary.
