Diamond Cove: Located east of Channel-Port au Basques, the community of Diamond Cove was established in the 1700s as a fishing settlement.
Fishing was always its main focus of the residents; however white quartz mineral deposits were of "interest" in 1934 and again in 1965 but the deposits were never mined.
Information obtained did not determine whether it was because of insufficient quantity vs lack of quality. Because of lack of services and a declining population Diamond Cove was at one point slated for "resettlement" however, such was not the case as the community hung in.
In 2016 there were 46 residents, down from 51 (9.8% drop) from 2011.
