Daniel's Cove: Very near the top of the peninsula, one comes to Daniel's Cove. Even though the community is still on the Traveller's Map of NL, Wikipedia contributors list it as a "Ghost community".
In the ENL the following bit of history about the community, reinforces the possibility that it was abandoned:
Despite its isolated and barren location it is probable that Daniel's Cove was settled about the same time as Old and New Perlican, in the late 1600s.
Daniel's Cove was first reported in the Census of 1836 as having twenty-seven inhabitants, all Roman Catholic, in three houses. The small-boat inshore cod fishery was the economic base of the community, which numbered thirty-six in 1857 including two Irish-born residents.
Hutchinsons Newfoundland Directory for 1864-1865 (1864) listed six planters in the community: Thomas Gorman, Jeremiah, John and Joseph Howard, Michael Kelly and Martin Phillips.
The name Howard was listed in New Perlican in 1675, according to family tradition, a Michael Kelly settled at Daniel's Cove in 1810.
The population of Daniel's Cove did not exceed fifty until 1935, when a population of seventy-three was reported. There was no church or school reported in Daniel's Cove, which was partially resettled without government assistance by 1954.
The remaining thirteen residents in one family resettled in Old Perlican after 1966.
