(aka Culls Harbour): On the south shore of Alexander Bay (formerly known as Bloody Bay) in Bonavista Bay, this harbour is thought to be named after a man, whose family name was Cull. Local lore has suggested that he sailed (c. 1700) into the bay where there was a Beothuk encampment and proceeded to massacre 8 native Indians. Taking them into his boat, one by one he scalped them, and he threw them overboard as he sailed out into Bloody Bay. Three other possibilities include the following: the fact that the surname Cull was common in the area and so the towns name was chosen to commemorate an early settler; an early settler was John Cullion from County Cork, Ireland who came via New Brunswick to settle in the area and work for a local logging company was honored; and finally, according to Brooks (2013) it could be named after a settler from Prince Edward Island who operated, in the early 1900s, a sawmill, whose name was John Culleton.
