Probably the best-known monument that commemorates Cook is the Captain James Cook National Historic Site, located in Corner Brook on Mayfair Avenue on Crow's Hill.
Not only does the site offer spectacular views of the city, the Blomidon Mountains (also known as Blow me Down Mountains) and the Bay of Islands, there are a number of interpretive panels where one can read about Cook's life and see replicas of some of his maps.
There is a larger than life-size bronze statue of Cook, holding a quadrant, gazing to the heaven. Cook explored this area in 1767. The monument to Cook was erected in 1972.
