Burgoyne's Cove: Located at the very end of the route, Burgoyne's Cove is the site of a former slate quarry, known worldwide for it blue and purple stone.
According to material contained in Wikipedia, Burgoyne's Cove was first settled by British immigrants coming over from England to take advantage of the fishing, logging, and mining.
A British general, John Burgoyne, who fought in the Revolutionary War and also served for several months in Newfoundland in the late 1700s, is said to have "lent his name to the new community".
From the settlement, according to the Discovery Trail Visitors Guide, one can take a trail that leads to the site of a 1953 airplane crash.
History records that an American B36 Peacemaker airplane crashed on the hills above the community, killing all 23 military personnel, including the commander, Brigadier General Richard Ellsworth.
Remains are still there as well as a "striking propeller" monument which was erected to commemorate the deceased.
