Black Duck Brook: Named after the abundance of black ducks in the area, officially the bird is called the "American Black Duck" and typically they look like female Mallards except that they are a bit darker all over, and they have an olive-yellow beak.
In French nearby Shoal Cove was known as L'Anse-aux-Canards, or Duck Cove. One would assume that they were hunted as a source of food.
